Ask anyone about their matric dance experience, and they’ll tell you about their outfit, the event decoration, and the vehicle they arrived in.

Selecting the right vehicle for the event ensures that your moment in the spotlight is an entrance everyone will remember. It’s also a personal decision that will speak volumes about your style, preferences, and more.

So, to get the ideas flowing, here are some popular vehicle options to ensure the best entrance:

Find A Luxury Car

The automotive world has tiers, and luxury cars are at the tippy top. While it’s unlikely someone will loan you a Ferrari or Lamborghini for the evening, if you are fortunate enough to rent one – it’s a great option.

Luxury sports cars are sleek, bold, and attention-grabbing, and in most cases, you’ll hear them before seeing them. While attention-grabbing, it can be a bit too much for some and be warned, they are not the easiest vehicles to get out of. Especially in a tight dress.

But no one will ask about the dress or suit after you climb out of a Ferrari.

Another route to take with a luxury car is an executive vehicle like a Rolls-Royce or Bentley, which were developed for passengers.

We tend to lean towards the executive vehicle for an event like a matric dance. Also, it’s incredibly comfortable.

More budget-friendly options for executive rides are the BMW 7 series or Mercedes S Class.

While these vehicles are expensive and, in some cases, rare, you could go more exotic.

Yes – Hypercars

Even in the 1%, there’s another level of wealth, and these individuals drive Hypercars. Most hypercars have over 800+ horsepower and can do 0-100km/ph in under three seconds.

There are only a few of these in South Africa.

The brands on this hypercar list include:

  • Pagani Huayra
  • McLaren P1
  • Ferrari LaFerrari
  • Porsche 918 Spyder
  • Koenigsegg Agera
  • Bugatti Veyron (all trims)
  • Lamborghini Veneno/Centenario

However, almost all of these are two-seaters, so unless you’re hyper-wealthy, it’s unlikely any 18-year-old will be given the keys.

Also, hypercars usually come with unusual door opening mechanisms (e.g. think of a Lamborghini’s scissor doors), so escaping these vehicles gracefully in a ballgown dress is going to be a challenge.

But what if you want more time to show off your outfit while rolling up the red carpet at your matric dance?

Get The Top Down in A Convertible

There’s nothing better than driving with the roof down on the open road. A convertible gives everyone inside the vehicle a sense of freedom.

An event such as a matric dance allows for a longer entrance and to show off your outfits. And with convertibles offering four seats, you can be driven into the event without switching drivers.

Be warned that some models will require climbing over the front seats. If you have a long dress, be in the front seat and let your partner out the back.

But what if you have an old-school spirit?

Go With Retro

There’s no school like the old school. A true classic is the best option if you’re looking for a quirky and fun entrance.

If your matric dance has a decade theme, finding a car from that era will tie together with your event entrance. The obvious choice nowadays is a Volkswagen Beetle, but there are endless options.

Going with a retro vehicle is a timeless choice. But what if you’re looking to share the entrance with friends?

Sharing The Experience in A Limousine

The best thing about arriving anywhere in a stretch limousine is all your friends are there, and there are bound to be snacks and drinks.

The traditional choice for formal events, a limo can accommodate groups of friends and offers a luxurious and comfortable ride. If you’re expecting a long wait on the red carpet and are too shy to have all the attention, the limo is for you.

But if you can’t get enough attention – this next one is for you.

Go With Something “Novel”

No one says you can’t put a couch on a front-loading digger and have it drop you off. Or drive up in a replica vehicle, like Kit from Nightrider.

The possibilities are endless. But for us, using any vehicle not usually seen pulling up to a red carpet is a win. If you can arrive on a forklift – that’s cool.

You do you. And if you have an unlimited budget, why not arrive by helicopter? Or a horse-drawn carriage.

But always consider the logistics of getting in and out of the vehicle in your formal attire. Make sure the chosen vehicle aligns with your personal style and complements the overall theme of the matric dance.

And if you’re experiencing any battery issues, we have one for any vehicle you choose for your matric dance.
